A Three-Way Interaction Logistic Regression Analysis of Employment among Recent Vocational Graduates

Training certification is commonly interpreted as an observable signal in labor markets characterized by information asymmetry. This study examines employment outcomes among recent vocational education graduates in Indonesia using the National Labour Force Survey (SAKERNAS) from 2018 to 2023. Employment status is modeled as a binary outcome within a logistic regression framework incorporating three-way interaction terms among certification status, gender, and urban–rural location. The results indicate that certification is positively associated with employment outcomes, although its effects vary across demographic and spatial groups. Marginal effects analysis suggests that certification yields larger employment gains among female graduates, while differences across locations are more context-dependent. Additional analysis reveals that the return to certification weakened during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the importance of labor-market conditions in shaping employment outcomes. These findings contribute to the understanding of heterogeneous labor-market transitions among vocational graduates in Indonesia and provide evidence for the development of more targeted workforce policies.Downloads
